Toys, Toys, and More Toys

Toys R Us went out of business and it looks like all of their overstock has landed in my house. I’ve grown accustomed to watching where I step, because everything is everywhere. I won’t lie, I used to take their naptime and clean up all their toys. Their naptimes are limited but I would do it.

Every day, I would walk around and clean everything up while they took a ten minute nap. Then, I would sit down and they would all wake up. I would take a look around and ask myself, ‘Why did I just clean all of that up, when they’re just going to wake up and get it all back out again. Yeah, I don’t do that anymore.

I’ve recently moved their toy chest into their second bedroom. We have their cribs in one room and all of the furniture with their clothes in a second. Now, that’s their playroom. I setup the video monitor, so they can go in there and I can run into the kitchen to start dinner and I can still watch them.

That was working really well for about a week. Then they realized they could open some of the drawers in the changing table. (That is now empty) and the newest thing is, Brooke, has learned she can shut the door.

At first, it was funny. I would see her doing it on the monitor and yell from the kitchen, “Keep the door open.” She would peek out of the door like, “How does she know that I’m closing this. She can’t see me.” I felt like one of those moms that had eyes on the back of her head.

Now, it got to the point where I was having to go and open the door because the boys would freak out as soon as it closed, about a hundred times and I could get anything done in the kitchen anyways. I tried a door stop, no she pulled that out right away. Then made it a toy. After that, I figured it out. I took a rope and tied the rope to their dresser. The door no longer can close. Genius. At least until they figure out knots.

After their birthday, we decided they would love a ball pit. My sister-in-law ended up having one so she sent it over. The kids loved it, but it came with like twenty balls. My genius thought for that week was, ‘They need more balls”. Yeah, that was not my brightest moment.

The ball pit is in the living room, there is now a permanent trail of balls from my living room, to their play room. I’m not kidding, if you stop over randomly in the middle of the day, there will be balls everywhere. The kids run and crawl through them pushing them everywhere.

My dad stopped one day when he finished work early. He asked if I lost any of my children in the explosion of toys through my house. We laughed but seriously, it was bad.

When I clean up at night, I find things over the baby gates in random rooms. In random drawers. Under chairs. Everywhere. I find myself just having to laugh. I’m sure years from now, we will still find toys underneath things as we move them.

Everyone that knows me, knows I’m a little OCD. My children are teaching me to be a little less so. Yes, I still clean everything up at night, but if you ask my husband he will tell you I’m not nearly as bad as I was three months ago.

If anyone decides to stop, you just have to live with a little bit of a mess and a whole lot of cuteness! Mostly because, I’ve had to learn to live with a little bit of mess and I know that the whole lot of cuteness is totally worth it!

Hope everyone is having a great week! People have been sending messages asking about Brody and we appreciate everyone checking on him! We have about two weeks left before his cast is (hopefully) gone! He’s allowed to finally put weight on it and that’s making my days a heck of a lot easier! 🙂
